Performing Arts

The Northern Bay P-12 College’s performing arts program enables students to access the curriculum not only in class sessions but in a range of activities beyond the school gate. With outstanding relationships within the Arts community our team seeks out opportunities to perform and arts communities frequently invite our students to special performances which cultivate the imagination and broaden the experience of our young people.

The Victorian State School Spectacular

2020 marks our 9th year as being a part of the Victorian State School Spectacular. With students from Year 4 upwards participating in the Mass Choir, and students from year 7 upwards in the senior Mass Dance group, the opportunity to perform at Melbourne Arena in front of a 10,000-person audience is always very popular. This year’s performance is set to take place on Saturday 12 September at 1 and 6 pm where 36 Northern Bay students will be joining the other 2,900 Victorian students to put on a three-hour SPECTACULAR performance. This show is then later televised on channel 7 and 7 plus for everyone to enjoy

Our program aims:

As well as the essential knowledge and language children are required to gain for each area, the Performing Arts team also aim to develop the skills of critical thinking and creativity. Through the program students gain confidence and are assisted to discover different ways of viewing their world, through each area of the Performing Arts. Our students set goals in all of their learning and similarly the goals of the Performing Arts team are designed to help and guide students to think in a creative, unique, expressive and critical manner and to help them understand themselves and the world.

Also, through the Performing Arts our team works hard to make a connection to the wider community, providing opportunities for the children to perform to a wide range of audiences. This involves bringing the community into our schools and by taking our children out into the community. Through our connections we strive to develop a sense of community spirit within our students where the love of performance both in and out of school hours enables the children at Northern Bay College to provide entertainment and display the passion we have for Performing Arts. Throughout our Primary program we make it a goal to develop children’s practical skills and techniques in all areas from playing musical instruments and singing to acting and dancing. From Year 5, students are also given the opportunity to explore individual concert instruments and can join our school concert ensembles.
