Art & Design

Junior Arts Program

Arts learning at the junior campuses of Northern Bay College provides a strong foundation for creativity, curiosity and self-expression. From the early years through to primary levels, students are immersed in engaging visual arts experiences that encourage exploration, imagination and skill development in a supportive environment.

Students are introduced to a wide range of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, collage and sculpture, allowing them to experiment and build confidence in their artistic abilities. Lessons are designed to develop fine motor skills, creativity and the ability to communicate ideas visually, while also fostering enjoyment and a sense of achievement.

Art at the junior campuses is closely connected to classroom learning, with projects often linked to broader themes and units of inquiry. Students are encouraged to share their work through displays and celebrations across the campus, helping to build pride in their learning and a strong sense of belonging.

These early experiences in the arts play an important role in nurturing creativity and confidence, laying the groundwork for continued engagement in Art and Design as students move through the college.

Senior Arts Program

The Art, Design & Technology learning areas at Northern Bay P–12 College – Goldsworthy Campus provide a dynamic and diverse environment where students can build creativity, practical skills and real-world knowledge. A strong emphasis is placed on student choice and voice, particularly in Years 9 and 10, allowing learners to explore areas of interest while developing pathways toward VCE and VM. Design and Technology programs are closely aligned with industry, giving students valuable hands-on experience.

The campus proudly hosts the annual Northern Bay College Art, Design and Technology Showcase, a highly regarded event that celebrates student achievement and creativity. This showcase highlights the depth, quality and diversity of work produced across the college and strengthens connections with the local community.

Students also benefit from strong links to the broader arts sector, including partnerships with Geelong Gallery and the Geelong Arts Centre, providing opportunities for excursions, workshops and exposure to professional practice. Through programs such as IMPACT, students further engage with the wider creative community across Geelong and Melbourne.

Together, these opportunities ensure students are supported to develop their skills, explore future pathways and connect their learning to real-world creative and industry contexts.
