PREP – 2

Our P–2 program follows a Developmental Curriculum approach that prioritises developmentally and culturally appropriate teaching while fostering student voice and ownership of learning.

This approach ensures strong connections to Literacy and Numeracy, while building solid foundational skills as students begin their formal education.

There is a strong emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics, alongside personal and social learning, with additional focus on The Arts and Health & Physical Education to support the development of the whole child.

Hello Families and Welcome to Northern Bay College,

We are very excited to be sharing the beginning of your child’s educational journey with you as you look to transition into one of our wonderful prep classes in 2026.

We are very proud of our entire community here at Northern Bay College and I know that your child is going to have a wonderful time through all of their years of education here at our school.

We look forward to seeing you in person through the school visits that will be part of your child’s transition to school next year. Thank you again for putting your trust in our school to provide for your child’s education and best wishes.

OUR PREP CLASSES

A Typical Day for Prep Children

Students participate in these subjects for 1 hour each week with a specialist teacher. Other subject areas such as science, design and technology and humanities are taught through “investigation sessions” by the classroom teacher.

NBC offers a range of engaging specialist learning experiences to all our students. Our specialist subjects for students in Prep to Year 6 are:

  • Performing Arts/Music
  • Social and Emotional Learning
  • Physical Education

An example of a typical day at school for the prep students after the first few weeks of school might be as follows:

Developmental Curriculum

Investigations

Northern Bay College believes that students learn best through play based, hands-on experiences in the early years of formal education. Teachers engage students in learning by “tapping in” to their unique interests and make real life and meaningful connections to literacy and numeracy skills that are explicitly taught later in the day.
