Our Learning Program
In Years 3–6 at Northern Bay College, students experience a rich and engaging learning program that builds strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while fostering curiosity, creativity, and independence. Learning is enhanced through the purposeful use of technology and supported by a wide range of specialist subjects, including The Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Social and Emotional Learning.
Our teaching approach combines explicit instruction with targeted, point-of-need support to ensure every student can succeed. Education Support staff work alongside teachers in every classroom, strengthening personalised learning and enabling timely intervention. A strong focus on student wellbeing underpins all learning, creating safe, inclusive environments where students feel confident to take risks and grow.
Students are given regular opportunities to apply and showcase their learning. Through the Education Research Project (ERP) and termly showcases, students demonstrate their understanding, creativity, and progress. Problem-solving is a key focus, particularly in mathematics, where students are encouraged to think critically and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

Across Years 3–6, students develop:
- advanced reading comprehension and critical thinking skills
- strong writing and language capabilities
- deep understanding of mathematical concepts, including number, patterns, fractions, measurement, and statistics
- skills in scientific inquiry and investigation
- knowledge of history, geography, and community through Humanities
- capabilities in digital and design technologies

Together, these experiences ensure students are well-prepared, confident learners ready for the next stage of their education.
