SBAT & VET

Pathways

Northern Bay College provides students with a wide range of pathway opportunities, including Vocational Education and Training (VET) and School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT), to support successful transitions into further education, training, and employment.

As part of the College’s senior pathway options, students are encouraged to explore VET and SBAT programs alongside their VCE or VCE VM studies, ensuring their learning is tailored to their individual strengths, interests, and career aspirations.

SBAT

SBAT programs extend this opportunity by enabling students to combine their school studies with paid employment and formal training in a chosen industry.

Students typically spend part of their week in the workplace, gaining valuable on-the-job experience while working towards both their secondary qualification and a vocational certificate.

This “earn while you learn” approach builds strong industry connections, develops practical skills, and gives students a significant advantage as they transition from school into apprenticeships, traineeships, or ongoing employment.

VET

VET at Northern Bay College allows students to gain nationally recognised qualifications while still at school, developing practical, industry-specific skills that prepare them for real-world employment.

These programs may be delivered at school or through external training providers and often contribute directly to a student’s senior secondary certificate.

Through hands-on learning and workplace experiences, VET equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and employability skills needed for a variety of career pathways, from further study at TAFE or university to direct entry into the workforce.

Together, VET and SBAT pathways at Northern Bay College reflect a strong commitment to personalised learning and future-focused education, ensuring every student has access to meaningful, real-world opportunities that support their goals beyond school.
