Saturday 15th August was the opening night of the inaugural Northern Bay Creatives Exhibition. This event has been planned since early this year and is intended to highlight the journey of our creative students beyond their schooling and showcase their talents as alumni of Northern Bay College.
The opening night displayed the local community’s willingness to come together and celebrate our young achievers. A diverse mix of people and generations attended the opening, from the alumni students and their families to current students from the senior and junior campuses and staff and members of the public who had simply seen the promotion of the event and decided to come along.
A highlight of the opening event was the performance by the band Windrush with lead singer and guitarist alumni Riley Ward. Their performance was polished and had the entire crowd engaged from the first note to the last.
Another alumna that features in the exhibition is Jessie Spadon who has been our artist in residence at NBC Goldsworthy since March this year. Jessie has been painting two of the three canvases on display whilst an artist in residence and has inspired many of our visual art students as she works away in studio 1.
Students have regularly approached Jessie and asked questions about the artwork and the way she has painted them and what the imagery means to her. It is great to see the present NBC students being inspired by the alumni.
This collection of alumni work explores themes from music, art wearables including beadwork and jewellery to tattoo design, advertising, brand identity, and cultural and local connections.
The Artworks cover a range of mediums and methods from photography to oil painting and digital media to graphite drawing.
The skills and talent on display in this inaugural alumni exhibition are outstanding and showcase the learning and continued development of everyone’s skills since graduating high school.
