P-8 Campuses – Peer Mediators
We are excited to introduce our Peer Mediators, a group of students who are helping to make our yard a more positive and respectful place for everyone.
During break times, our Peer Mediators are out in the yard, supporting students to work through minor conflicts and disagreements. Using a simple six-step process, they help students listen to each other, understand what has happened, consider possible solutions and reach a fair agreement.
Our Peer Mediators are not there to decide who is right or wrong. Instead, they use their active listening, communication and problem-solving skills to help students resolve issues respectfully and independently.
We are incredibly proud of our Peer Mediators and the leadership, empathy and responsibility they are demonstrating. We look forward to seeing them continue to make a positive difference across our school community!
Years P-12 Student Representative Council
The Student Representative Council (SRC) gives students an important voice in our school community. Students are elected by their peers to represent the views, ideas and experiences of their class or year level and to help make a positive difference across the College.
Being part of the SRC is an opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills, work collaboratively and take an active role in shaping their school. SRC representatives listen to the ideas and concerns of their peers, share these with the wider school community and work together to develop and implement initiatives that benefit students.
SRC gives students the skills to create and implement, to lead and to follow, to learn from mistakes and to succeed. Most importantly, they give students the opportunity to represent the views of their peers and to succeed in making those views heard.
Student Voice in Action
A great example of student voice in action is the development of our Agreed Expected Behaviours. Members of the SRC from each of our five campuses were consulted and contributed their ideas and perspectives to the development of the College-wide expectations.
This ensured that our Agreed Expected Behaviours reflect not only what adults believe is important, but also what our students believe makes Northern Bay College a positive, safe and inclusive place to learn.
Student voice also extends beyond our College. SRC members have the opportunity to choose foundations and organisations to which they would like to donate funds raised through SRC activities. This gives students a genuine voice in deciding how their efforts can make a difference, while building meaningful connections with our local and wider community.
Through the SRC, students are learning that their voice matters, their ideas can influence decisions, and they can play an active role in creating the kind of school community in which they want to learn, belong and make a difference.
Let’s hear from our Peer Mediators and SRC members
